Latest News from:
Central Office
AUTUMN 2007
New Board members: Two new members were elected unopposed to the Board at the recent AGM, Abiola Okubanjo, who is based in London and Ken Scott, Treasurer of Making Music South East Committee. .
MM Reps’ e-mail addresses: You’ll recall that there was a target of September 2007 for all MM Reps to have supplied the office with an email contact. Predictably, this has proved unrealistic and the deadline has been extended to September 2008. Thereafter from January 2009, if a Rep has not provided an email address, they will still receive the major postal mailings from the office but will miss out on any interim email bulletins circulated to Reps. They will be told that this is the case and can then choose to remain “less informed” or to opt in to email contact at a later date.
Committee Convention 2008: It appears fairly certain that this will go ahead in September/October 2008 in place of the Committee Conference and the UK Conference in 2008.
Sir Charles Groves prize: The Board has awarded the 2008 prize jointly to Roger Wright and Susannah Simons of the BBC for their support of voluntary music-making. This was announced at the recent Conference in Manchester.
LADY HILARY GROVES PRIZE was awarded to Vivienne Bellos who has done so much to bring people, young and adult, of many Faiths together through the power of Music.

Wales Committee
This website!
Our aims for this website are a) to keep you and the wider public informed about Making Music news and activities and b) to provide you with an additional resource for both promoting your activities and communicating with us/other members. So if there is anything you would like to see on the website or have any other comments we’d be pleased to hear from you.
Our Chairman, Sheena, writes:
WELSH REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Many of you will remember the Training & Development Officers we have had in the past and the projects and events that they so successfully organised for the membership of MMW. The last two year project came to an end over eighteen months ago and the MMW Committee is working closely with Making Music Central Office, London to secure sufficient funds to enable us to employ a Welsh Development Officer who, it is hoped, will work for us for at least three days per week on a variety of projects, which will include communication with and between our membership, lobbying activities, projects involving the young people of Wales, and much else.
MMW SOCIETY CONTACT MEETINGS
I cannot stress enough the importance of the MMW committee Society Contact. It is through this person that your Society gets to know about Making Music and all it offers its membership – and the services on offer are multitudinous. Some Societies do not seem to be making good enough use of their Contact and thus are not up to date with the organisation of which they are members.
There are Society reps who perhaps cannot always get information to their Society or its Committee and for this reason the MMW Committee is holding a series of meetings around the country, inviting the Society Contact/Chairmen/ Secretary and Treasurers of member Societies to come and meet with us, talk with us, throw your bricks (and hopefully some bouquets) at us and come and find out how important the person you have elected to be your Making Music Society Contact is and should be to you and your Society.
The first three of these meetings (there will be four in all) were held in Cardiff, Monmouth and St Asaph. They proved to be very informative for the Societies represented and for the Wales Committee and were well attended.
MMW COMMITTEE
Like most committees around the country we are looking for new members. Our committee meetings are held in Shrewsbury and Llandrindod Wells and are on a Saturday, four times a year. We have very relaxed but hard working meetings and a delicious lunch forms part of the day and travel expenses are re-imbursed. We are a small committee of just seven people and we would love to be bigger – so please think about joining us. Find out about Making Music and what it can do for your Society – help to form and carry out plans – and be part of ground level policy making.
